From cottage industry to wire power

How did textiles shape the Soesterkwartier? In the exhibition Van huisvlijt tot draadkracht you will discover the stories behind clothing, embroidery, sewing machines, banners and other special objects from the neighborhood. Textiles tell not only about crafts, but especially about the people who lived, worked and lived here.

The exhibition was developed by the Wijkmuseum Soesterkwartier, together with local residents, and ties in with the Textile in Amersfoort theme year. From July 2026 the exhibition can be seen in the renovated Wijkmuseum.

Textiles from the district

The exhibition consists of objects contributed by residents: from christening gowns and tablecloths to sewing boxes and handmade work. Behind each object is a personal story and a piece of neighborhood history.

Everyone can participate

Together we make the exhibition. With workshops, meetings and open walk-in moments, the rich textile history of the Soesterkwartier is further discovered, shared and preserved.
