The Onze Lieve Vrouwetoren is one of the most famous landmarks in Amersfoort. Keientrekkers also call this 98-meter high tower the Lange Jan. A real eye-catcher, it rises beautifully above our city. You can also climb the tower together with Gilde Amersfoort. Whether you are born and raised in Amersfoort or not, this is something you want to have done.
About the Onze Lieve Vrouwetoren
Did you know that the Onze Lieve Vrouwetoren is the cadastral datum of the Netherlands? With green lights, this point is clearly visible in the floor of the tower. What else makes the tower special is that it is the third highest late medieval tower in the Netherlands. On, in and around the tower there is plenty to experience. For example, the Waterline sails past the tower and it is the starting point of several city walks.
At the foot of the tower you will find the Lieve Vrouwekerkhof. A square full of cozy catering establishments. Think of the Stadscafé Amersfoort, 't Kannetje and Marktzicht. For an evening out you are at the right place at theatre De Lieve Vrouw on the square.
What to expect.
Get your sporty clothes out of the closet, because climbing the tower is quite a work-out. You go up about 70 meters and you step on 346 steps. Fortunately, you don't have to go up all at once and there are several stops during the tour. The view, of course, makes it more than worth it!
During the tour, the guide will tell you all about the Onze Lieve Vrouwetoren. In addition, a video installation has been built in the tower, allowing you to watch and listen to other stories as well.

The impressive timber loft
One of the stopovers is the timber loft. Here you get to see the carillons, which are the instruments a carillonneur where. In addition, you will stop to look at the hand of the clock and it is a lot bigger than you expect!

The special thing about climbing the tower is the view. Amersfoort is beautiful, of course, but at 70 meters high you can clearly see the beautiful streets that make up the city.
