Amersfoort's greatest treasure is its history. There are more than 650 monuments and narrow streets and canals that let you relive the Middle Ages. You can see and feel this history while walking the photo route. So you shoot the perfect picture at the most beautiful locations in Amersfoort!
Start at de Koppelpoort
The Koppelpoort is both a water and land gate, making it unique in the Netherlands. It dates from 1425 and is part of the city's second walling. When you walk under de Koppelpoort towards the center, you have the next "wow" moment: Grote en Kleine Spui.
Tip: pop into the Drie Ringen for a beer at Amersfoort's oldest beer brewery!
Onze Lieve Vrouwetoren
Next, the route takes you to the most beautiful square in town: the Onze Lieve Vrouwekerkhof. Enjoy a cold drink on the cozy Krankeledenplantsoen. You will then look out on the photogenic Onze Lieve Vrouwetoren.
Tip: Photograph and climb this 98 meter(!) high tower for a stunning view. If you go with a guide, you'll also learn a bit about the history of Amersfoort.
The Muurhuizen
Then walk through the Muurhuizenand imagine yourself back in the Middle Ages. When the city began to expand 1380, a new city wall had to be built. The old wall was torn down and from about 1500 houses were built with the material from the old city wall. Plenty of places to take beautiful photos!
Monnikendam
Finally, shoot some snapshots of the Monnikendam and then dive back into the center for a bite to eat or a drink.
