Trek your nicest dress or newest blouse out of the closet, because it’s time for a luxurious dinner. We asked Amersfoort residents where to go for a chic night out, and these eight culinary gems are the result!

May

Marco and Ingeborgh Blok are aan het roer of restaurant MAY. Marco previously earned a Michelin star with his former restaurant, Bloks, in Amersfoort. At MAY, seasonal cuisine takes center stage. This makes every dining experience a new and surprising one.

They work with high-quality, local products that have a great story behind them. The dishes are uncomplicated. No frills are needed, because the fresh ingredients take center stage. Not sure what to choose? On Fridays and Saturdays, they serve exclusively a perfectly curated 5-course menu.

De Aubergerie

De Aubergerie has been awarded a BIB Gourmand by Michelin. In short, that means exceptionally good food at reasonable prices. They serve culinary dishes based on French cuisine—true flavor bombs. Do you like something unique? Opt for the surprise menu, also known as the kitchen’s “incubator.”

De Saffraan

At De Saffraan, awarded a Michelin star in the past, they work with local products as much as possible. You can compose the menu with your favorites, but personally I like to be surprised. And you can do that via 'Tasting menu' with an Asian twist or with the vegetarian 'Garden Garden menu'. Please note; these menus are only available on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

The Michelin Guide writes about De Saffraan: “Here, a chef who has mastered innovative techniques is at the helm.” That sounds very promising! In addition, the restaurant is located on its own boat and features a lovely terrace.

De Monnikendam

In one of Amersfoort’s most striking landmarks, the Monnikendam water gate, you’ll find the restaurant of the same name, De Monnikendam. Here, you can choose from a rotating chef’s menu featuring four, five, or six courses. Want to really go all out or surprise your loved one? At the Riddertoren, you can enjoy a romantic dinner by a crackling fire and romantic candlelight. And… you can even get married there!

Merlot

At Merlot, they serve French cuisine with influences from Vietnamese cuisine. The ingredients are fresh and full of flavor. Another plus: there are vegetarian options. If you choose the Merlot Menu, you can select from four to seven courses. Or put together your own menu from the à la carte options.

Chef Michael van Manh Ho was named Chef of the Year in 2023 by Proefschrift Restaurants! Expect fresh herbs and spices in a perfect balance of sour, salty, sweet, spicy, and umami.

Tollius

Restaurant Tollius, located at the foot of the Amersfoortse Berg, is a culinary gem where gastronomy comes to life. Under the leadership of Chef Barry Hamstra, acclaimed in the Michelin Guide and Gault Millau, everything revolves around pure enjoyment: surprising dishes, excellent wines, and a warm, relaxed atmosphere.

Seasonal ingredients form the basis for bold flavors and unique dishes, perfectly paired with the wines. Tollius stands out with a service team that works seamlessly with the kitchen, ensuring that every guest is thoroughly pampered.

Het Bergpaviljoen

Het Bergpaviljoen is a wonderful place for lunch, dinner, or drinks. Enjoy “joie de vivre” and relaxed service, complete with comfortable seating, fine glassware, and plenty of privacy for a conversation. As Het Bergpaviljoen itself puts it: “Feel-good gastronomy without frills in a pleasant and casual atmosphere.”

The restaurant has also been awarded a Bib Gourmand by Michelin with the following description: “…The fantastic set menu, fresh fish from the display counter, a classic dish, or bar food to share? A meal in this luminous pavilion, where the Art Deco elements and the spacious terrace catch the eye, comes with some tough choices. But whether it’s ceviche or pan-seared salmon fillet, the chef spices up his classic foundations with original ideas. A place with great taste!..."

RAUW

Meat lovers who are crazy about the typical rich flavor of aged beef from dual-purpose cows will find everything they could wish for at RAUW. The menu features, among other things, a generous côte de boeuf that’s silky tender or a chateaubriand enriched with pan-seared foie gras.

The chefs at RAUW grill various cuts of beef over a very intense heat source, ensuring juiciness and a perfect texture. For those who prefer their meat rauw , there’s a delicious steak tartare served either as an appetizer or as a main course with classic accompaniments.
