San Giorgio
The former St. Joris Monastery in the Krommestraat (downtown Amersfoort) has housed the Italian Restaurant San Giorgio since the 1970s. "If you are talking about an Amersfoort icon, it is Pizzeria San Giorgio. The beautiful Art Deco building alone is unique in Amersfoort. But so is what you find inside. This is an authentic Italian experience where oozes history. Close the door behind you, blink your eyes, and you are in Italy. With the fine wines, and fantastic food, yet most of all that Italian atmosphere of bustle and merriment. San Giorgio is an absolute fixture on Krommestraat, and far beyond. The hospitality, the smell of pasta and pizza, the Montepulciano and Salento in the wine glass, save yourself that trip to Italy, this is closer for the same feeling."
