The Nursery Bridge or Saw Mill Bridge | Gilde Quarter
The Kwekersbrug, also called Zaagmolen- or Eembrug, is a 1954 bascule bridge designed by city architect David Zuiderhoek. The bridge connects the Jericho and Jerusalem neighborhoods to Amsterdamseweg and Koppel Ring Road. Notable are the bridge operator's house, the masonry retaining walls with natural stone and the pylon with the city arms of Amersfoort. The steel bridge deck and counterweight in the bascule basement make the technology almost invisible, so opening and closing requires little energy. The modest, sleek design emphasizes functionality and elegance, while making the structure a valuable municipal monument.
