Take a look in advance

The Hof is the largest square in downtown Amersfoort. At the square are several cafes and restaurants. On the Hof there is a market every Friday and Saturday.

The name Hof dates back to the medieval episcopal court that was located on a spur of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug , where the Eem River flowed around it in a bend on the east side. This episcopal court was first mentioned in 1203, in an episcopal charter indicating that the court already existed in 1196.

In the center of the square is the City Fountain. The fountain features a bronze face that spouts water from its mouth. There are stories of a dragon that has been or still is under the fountain. Originally, this fountain is a 15th-century water source.
