Built in 1952, Jericho is a fine example of postwar reconstruction. Jericho is located on the former sites of Amersfoort's wood processing industry, with sawmills and storage sheds along the Eem River. Here logs were watered and cut into planks before drying out in the sheds.

In Jericho, two former stores are reminders of the early reconstruction period. With the construction of 128 homes in 1951, two pavilion-like stores were built only after completion in 1955: a fruit and vegetable shop on Korvetweg and a grocery store on Galjoenweg. They served to provide the new neighborhood residents with nearby groceries. Due to increasing traffic and competition from supermarkets, the stores closed permanently in 1979. Their presence marks the emergence of the Jericho neighborhood as an independent residential area and the changing nature of local amenities in the postwar city.
