The Heemtuin can be found in the Gildekwartier. Artist André Pielage designed brick objects here that deliberately block the large lawnmowers of the parks department. This gives native plants, such as dandelion and yarrow, room to grow again. The idea refers to conservationist Jac. P. Thijsse's first botanical garden and emphasizes the importance of greenery in the city. The shapes of the stones are reminiscent of tree stumps and ruins, making the artwork not only practical but also evoking a poetic image of nature reclaiming its place.
