The Grebbeline Dike | Jerusalem

The Swamp along the Hooglandsedijk recalls the former inundation area of the Grebbelinie, an 18th-century water line between Rhenen and Bunschoten. This line used flooded land as defense and later became part of the Valley Defense Line. Within Amersfoort, only the Hooglandsedijk was preserved; elsewhere the dike was excavated for the Koppel district and the Ring Road. Since 1951 the line no longer has a military function and parts developed into valuable natural areas. Here too, in Jerusalem, you can see traces in the landscape, where water, greenery and history continue to intersect.
