Opening hours during Open Monument Days 2025: Sat. 13 Sep. 10:00 - 17:00 & Sun. 14 Sep. 12:00 - 17:00

On this site, from the end of the 16th century, the militia targets were located. At the beginning of the 19th century the building came into the hands of the state, which established an artillery and engineer school there. For this purpose, the building was extensively remodeled. The beautiful Empire facade on Westsingel dates from this period. Note the front entrance with its checkered frame (rusticated) and carvings. The Empire style originated in France at the time of Napoleon Bonaparte.

The building has had many functions and even housed a fire station for a time. Now the Center for Archaeology is housed in the building. There are also finds from Amersfoort's soil on display and you can visit the workshops of the archaeologists and volunteers.
