Geluidswal Nieuwland

Like a new city wall, the sound wall surrounds residential district Nieuwland. The wall of "misfits" fits the neighborhood's theme of sustainable building. The theme recurs regularly, for example in environmentally friendly and recyclable building materials.

The original landscapes were the basis for the different atmospheres in the district. Old farms and landscape elements such as trees have been preserved. A double sewer system was installed where the first rainwater washes everything clean and is directed to the treatment plant, while the rainwater that falls after it goes to the surface water. Unique was the "I MW PV project": 500 homes received solar panels. The theme of sustainable construction dovetailed with the growing attention to the environment in the 1990s. But the large scale on which it was applied was very progressive.
