This unique cross-over workshop 'Embroider further on your Print' will be given by Nathalie Cassée (blockprint) and Marjolein van der Heide (broderie d'art). In one day you will be introduced to 2 crafts; block printing and broderie d'art. You will learn how they reinforce each other and how to combine them. Traditionally, printing fabric is used as a basis for further embroidery.
In the morning you will first make proofs on paper when block printing. Where you look for repetition, rhythm and/or layering. From these you print a choice on fabric. You bring a piece of linen or cotton fabric of about 0.50 x 1.50 m (preferably light colored because of the textile dye we use). You will then use the processed fabric in the afternoon to apply your embroidery to it. When embroidering with threads, beads and sequins you will learn to use different techniques with a beading needle. A small portion of the fabric may be stretched in an embroidery hoop as you work. Marjolein shows you the beautiful results you get by creating 3D effects and combining various materials: shiny, matte, large, small.
Cost p.p.: € 189,- This includes 21% VAT, coffee, tea, use of selection blockprints, textile paint, printing materials, sample paper and fabric, use of embroidery hoop, basic set of beads/paillettes/Swarovski/yarn/beading needle. The workshop does not include linen/cotton to be printed and lunch (bring your own).
You can reserve your place via the website of Marjolein van der Heide.
