Take a look in advance
On Friday, October 9, and Saturday, October 10, Amersfoort will be all about Bach. During Bach Day Amersfoort, music will fill all kinds of special spots in the city center. With about sixty concerts, there’s plenty to discover all weekend long, and there’s something to choose from almost every hour.
Professional musicians will perform music by Johann Sebastian Bach and composers inspired by him. Choirs and orchestras from Amersfoort will also participate, and young talents from the music schools will be given a stage. This edition puts string instruments in the spotlight. By focusing on the violin, cello, and other string instruments, the musicians hope to strike a chord with the audience as well.

Bach Day is for everyone. For young listeners, there’s “Muziek-Op-Schoot,” and teenagers also have their own program. On Friday evening, October 9, Bach’s music will be combined with pop and jazz at “ FLUOR ” and “Observant.” And music will be performed outside the concert venues as well. Traveling ensembles will visit the Meander MC and various healthcare facilities in Amersfoort to give concerts there.
The great thing is that almost all concerts are free to attend. Tickets are required only for the Friday evening jazz program at Observant and the closing concert on Saturday evening at the Joriskerk. That closing concert will serve as a festive finale featuring the Amersfoort Youth Orchestra conducted by Rolf Buijs, the Joris Chamber Choir conducted by Wouter Verhage, and flamenco specialist Thijs Borsten.
Whether you’re a big fan of Bach, love discovering new things, or are simply curious about what the city has to offer: there’s plenty to experience all weekend long during Bach Day.
