What started 22 years ago as a birthday party grew into Hooglanderveen's largest free festival: Willems Wondere Weiland! On Saturday, July 5, young and old will once again go wild in the meadow.

How did the festival come about?
"My little brother Willem played in a death metal band and wanted to perform on his birthday. That's how the first edition came about. That was such a successful party that we decided as a group of friends to continue it. Willem has been living in Japan for years now, but is present whenever he can."
WWW is much more than a music festival. What else is there to do?
"It's mostly about socializing. People who don't come for the performances can go to the silent disco, live jukebox or special beer bar. There is also a children's corner set up with bouncy castle, drawing table and sand pile."
Music lovers are sure to get their money's worth: there are three stages!
"True. In addition to the main stage and the tent, there is the new 'Heiferstage.' The lineup at all stages is incredibly diverse. From rock to jazz to hip-hop and metal. A tradition of the festival is that a metal band gives the final performance. That is now also provided."
Few festivals can say they have been around for 22 years. What is the formula for success?
"There is no have to with us. We continue as long as we enjoy it. In addition, we work with a large group of volunteers and all bands perform for travel and expenses. That way, everyone stays motivated to make something beautiful out of it."
