Masterclass Blueprints

Get acquainted with this ancient form of carving, guided by Nathalie Cassee (blockprinting) and Marte Haverkamp (indigo painting). In the places where you apply the special printing paste, the indigo paint stays outside, keeping the fabric white. Fascinating to see!

Blueprints is a traditional cut-out technique that has its origins in both Europe and Asia. The patterns used gave information about a person's background, social position or community. During this master class, you will experiment with different ways to apply the cut-out paste. In the morning, you will paint with a brush, work with stencils and print three test patches of cotton using wooden blocks from India. Then you choose one or a combination of these techniques to create and paint a larger design in the afternoon. Both the samples and the final piece will go into the indigo bath, after which we will allow the fabric to oxidize and rinse out. At the end of the day, you will take your own fabrics home for further processing.

A minimum of 6 and a maximum of 12 people can participate. The price is €189 per person, including VAT, guidance, inspiration, printing materials, use of selected printing blocks, stencils, indigo bath, spare paste and sample patches.
