On Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 June 2026 the green carpet rolls out and the area around Theatre Broedplaats Amersfoort turns into one big stage. For two days you will discover surprising, fresh and innovative theatre at various locations in Randenbroek/Schuilenburg. From Theatre Broedplaats Amersfoort to Elisabeth Groen to poppentheater Toermalijn in Park Randenbroek, from intimate theaters to open-air performances in the green: something is happening everywhere.
KIEM is not a standard festival. It is a place where young professional theatre talent presents itself, where new ideas arise, where people experiment, collaborate and are inspired. You see performances that touch, surprise, make you laugh, quiet you and make you think.
The program is versatile, playful and accessible: a route performance through city park Elisabeth Groen, children's performances in poppentheater Toermalijn, an audio tour with stories from the neighborhood, intimate performances in theatre vans, a Greek tragedy in the open-air theatre and penetrating performances in the Theatre Broedplaats. Form and content are given complete freedom.
What sets KIEM apart is by deliberately focusing on a new generation of theatre creators from the region: theatre students and recently graduated and self-taught theatre creators with a strong artistic drive and a clear voice of their own. Creators who don't just dream, but build. Who seek, dare and innovate. KIEM shows not only what theatre is, but especially what it can be.
More than just a theatre festival, KIEM is a day (or weekend) out. In between performances, you can settle down at cozy food trucks, get a fresh ice cream at the Ice Cream Factory and linger in the festival heart where there is always something to see, hear or experience. There is laughter, conversation, meeting and discovery. You come for theatre, but stay for the atmosphere.
KIEM feels like a place where you don't have to rush, where you may wander, look, taste and enjoy. A festival where meeting, deepening, art and sociability come together and where you have a wonderful day with friends, family or just alone.
Come look. Come feel. Come discover.
Let yourself be surprised by KIEM.
