The young bank clerk Jean (Mann) hears how his colleague Caron (Guers) supplements his meager salary at the casino. That sounds appealing to Jean as well. And sure enough: after just an hour of roulette, he’s already earned half a year’s salary. He travels to Nice, starts frequenting the expensive casinos there, and meets the beautiful, intriguing Jackie (Moreau), who also enjoys a bit of gambling. The platinum-blonde Moreau lets things spiral out of control beautifully, in atmospheric black-and-white, with lovely music by Michel Legrand playing in the background.
