The museum's medieval wall houses
Those who take a stroll through downtown Amersfoort imagine themselves in the Middle Ages more than once. Nowhere is this feeling as strong as in the Muurhuizen. This street, a ring around the historic city center, owes its name to the fact that its front facades stand on the stretch where Amersfoort's city wall once ran. The first city wall to be exact. When the city began to expand as a result of an economic boom in the late 14th century, a new city wall had to be built further along.
The old wall was then demolished and from about 1500 houses were built on that spot and thus the Muurhuizen were born. Because the construction of these houses took place in different periods, a great diversity of forms was created here.

The museum's medieval wall houses
Those who take a stroll through downtown Amersfoort imagine themselves in the Middle Ages more than once. Nowhere is this feeling more pronounced than in the Muurhuizen. This street, a ring around the historic city center, owes its name to the fact that its front facades stand on the stretch where Amersfoort's city wall once ran. The first city wall to be exact. When the city began to expand as a result of an economic boom in the late 14th century, a new city wall had to be built further along.
The old wall was then torn down and from about 1500 houses were built on that spot, and thus the Muurhuizen were born. Because the construction of these houses took place in different periods, a great diversity of forms has arisen here.
Museum Flehite is located in the three late medieval wall houses Breestraat 76, 78 and 80. Several authentic medieval traces have been preserved both on the outside and inside. This guided tour will lead you meandering through the history of these three monumental wall houses.
