New compositions by BOI AKIH emerged in the summer of 2025 from an intensive collaboration with Madagascar-based multi-instrumentalist Tsammy Tsara Tsara. For Voices of Moluccas, fourteen young poets from the Moluccas wrote new lyrics in the language of their ancestors, interwoven with Ambonese and Indonesian. In an expressive performance, BOI AKIH brings these voices to life, carried by sophisticated guitar playing, inspiring percussion and powerful vocals.
This seventh concert in the Musica Mundo Series 2026 shows how history and innovation intertwine. The sounds bear traces of ancient connections between the Moluccas and Madagascar. At the same time, a contemporary musical language emerges in which rhythm, melody and poetry reinforce each other. With the Boy Edgar Prize 2023 and the Culture Prize Indonesia 2024 in its pocket, BOI AKIH is one of the most distinguished ensembles of today.
