Yawning Man is an influential pioneer of desert/stoner rock. The band formed in the late 1980s around Gary Arce and Mario Lalli and, during legendary generator parties in the California desert, developed a unique blend of cinematic compositions, psychedelic improvisation, and melodic darkness. Their organic, largely instrumental sound became a major source of inspiration for the later Palm Desert scene.
In 2019, they released *Macedonian Lines*, their seventh studio album, via Heavy Psych Sounds. The album was recorded in Joshua Tree and produced by Mathias Schneeberger, known for his collaborations with Mark Lanegan, Greg Dulli, SUNN O))), and Earth, among others. With Bill Stinson on drums, Arce and Lalli formed the lineup that further put the band on the international map.

SoftSun is the result of a special collaboration between unique and visionary musicians. Pia Isaksen, Gary Arce, and Dan Joeright come from completely different parts of the world. Singer and bassist Pia Isaksen grew up in Norway, while Gary Arce and drummer Dan Joeright are based in the Mojave Desert in Southern California.
The environments in which they find themselves are reflected in the band’s beautiful, heavy, yet ethereal sound. Arce’s cinematic, dreamy guitar playing provides a lovely contrast to the heavy, melodic, bass-driven compositions. Pia’s voice—naturally ethereal—elevates the sound to a higher level and gives the songs a dreamy shoegaze atmosphere. *Daylight in the Dark* is SoftSun’s debut album and will be released on November 9 via Ripple Music.
