Harriët Duurvoort is a journalist, writer and columnist with the Volkskrant, among others, and makes documentaries.

Harriët tells the story of her mother Eva, who was six weeks old when she was adopted by a Reformed nurse couple from Scheveningen in 1928. Eva's life story takes the reader through nearly a century of world history in different places around the world. A story about the search for identity that adoption brings. About love and oppressive, sometimes crippling loyalty. About families adrift in waves of migration. About how Europe has changed in the experience of a black, European woman. About racism returning in new guises in every time and place.
