What happens when you really look at someone? When you capture people in their vulnerable and intimate moments? Amersfoort-based photographer Carla Kogelman - winner of the World Press Photo Award & the Silver Camera - always looks for the sincere and authentic in people in her work. With her camera she captures the essence of (daily) life, everywhere in the world.
Her photographs show pure moments of love, mourning, joy, vulnerability and loss.

From February 13, 2026, Museum Flehite will present a major retrospective of Kogelman's work for six months: Carla Kogelman: A Closer Look. Dozens of portraits tell stories from Amersfoort, but also from far beyond. Stories where everyone can recognize themselves.

Intimate Portraits
Museum Flehite shows a broad overview of Carla Kogelman's work, with diverse themes and subjects. You see people saying goodbye, children playing, rugby players in action, paralympic competitive swimmers, couples in their daily sleeping rituals and synchronized swimmers from Amersfoort. There are also photo series about the bond between humans and water, and themes such as growing up, family, gender identity and behind-the-scenes photography of the TV series A'dam - E.V.A. are featured. Last up is the series Fanny & Arthur, which tells the story of life and growing up on an organic farm in the Austrian countryside.

Bullet man through the city
The exhibition A Closer Look is part of a citywide collaboration between Museum Flehite, the Rietveldpaviljoen and the Mannenzaal. From February 2026, Museum Flehite and Rietveldpaviljoen will show their own stand-alone exhibition, and a complementary small portrait series of Carla Kogelman's work will be on view at the Mannenzaal .
