About poetry in the cracks of a 1970s Vinex neighborhood. And about finding your place.
Saxophonist Mete Erker comes this year with a brand new band consisting of three very headstrong musicians: pianist Floris Kappeyne, bassist Tijs Klaassen and drummer Wouter Kühne.
With this trio, Mete Erker comes to the fore as a soloist. In doing so, he takes all the space he needs to fully play his own game, open and direct, fresh from the liver.
'Tilburg Noord' is the band's debut album, and the first part of a diptych: in the fall, 'Live in Paradox' will be released. With both albums Mete Erker goes back to his musical roots: European impressionism in a wonderful mix with the free extrovert jazz music of Albert Ayler and Charlie Haden. All this seen through the eyes of today.
