Two couples, seemingly close, become entangled in a web of desires, guilt and deceit. Is it pure passion, an escape from the grind, or a deep lack that drives them? Secrets are whispered and truths twisted. How much remains hidden between lovers and friends? And what responsibility do you take for your own actions?

Marijke Schermer wrote the new theater text We Don't Live Here Anymore at Jakop's request. In the performance we hear the dialogues as voice-over of the characters while the performers express their inner emotions in Ahlbom's unique movement language.

The emotional life of the characters is visualized through the (bodies of) the players as we listen to their conversations. What is said, and what is kept silent about?

Sources of inspiration for this performance were the novellas We Don't Live Here Anymore and In the Bedroom by Andre Dubus, the novel Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates, the film of the same name by John Curran, the film Closer by Mike Nichols and Husbands and Wives by Woody Allen.

We Don't Live Here Anymore is a play about hidden truths and the turmoil that arises when previously made choices begin to pinch. The characters find themselves at a breaking point, questioning themselves and their desires anew. Instead of resigning themselves to what is, they search for what can still be. This poetic piece challenges both our reason and our imagination. It makes us feel the pain, doubt and strength of loved ones in transformation.
