The great Ricardo

A magician named Ricardo is expected at an intervention by his own family in a dreary seaside town. He decides not to go. Instead, he leaves everything behind and swims into the sea. There he slowly drifts away from the world: a master escapist who just can't seem to escape his own escape.

The Great Ricardo is a musical performance about an incorrigible fantasist balancing on the line between delusion and imagination. How do you keep yourself afloat when life feels like an endless sea of high waves?

The performance alternates the circus atmosphere of Balkan music with classical strings influenced by Arabic sounds. Together with composer Radek Fedyk and the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra, creators Jasper Stoop and Simme Wouters build a musical ocean that undulates, chafes and comes to rest.
