Soldier in resistance

In the spring of 2022, De Theatre BV told the story of Lex van Weren, who survived the infamous death camp thanks to his trumpet, with Trompettist in Auschwitz. The performance premiered at Leidse Schouwburg on Monday, April 4, in the presence of HRH Princess Margriet and Prof. Mr. Pieter van Vollenhoven. In March and April 2025, the performance was back in Dutch theaters for ten weeks.

In March 2026, top actors Soy Kroon and Thomas Cammaert are back with a special testimony from World War II. Soldier in resistance is an all-new stage production, again written by Allard Blom. More than 85 years after the outbreak of a final global war, it now seems more important than ever to continue sharing memories of that terrible time. And although so much is already known, there are still unknown but hugely impressive stories to be told from a period that can be seen as one of the blackest pages in recent Dutch history.

Soldier in resistance - the story

Op vrijdagavond 5 februari 1943 belt een man aan bij het huis van Hendrik Seyffardt, commandant van het Nederlandse SS-vrijwilligerslegioen. Seyffardt, voormalig luitenant-generaal, doet zelf open. Na enkele pistoolschoten overlijdt hij de volgende dag aan zijn verwondingen. Jan Verleun, 23 jaar oud, heeft hiermee zijn missie voltooid, maar de jacht op hem is begonnen. Verleun – die al had gevochten tegen de Duitse troepen tijdens de invasie van Nederland in 1940 – blijft na de capitulatie strijden bij verzetsgroep CS-6, waar hij met talloze missies de nazi’s saboteerde. Met Soldaat in verzet, naar het boek van Do du Preez-Verleun en Pauline Wesselink, vertellen acteurs Soy Kroon en Thomas Cammaert het verhaal van Jans levensgevaarlijke strijd tegen de bezetters.
