Jam Karet - the time is rubber

Varo wakes up in a psychiatric clinic with no memory of who she is. Her past is gone - except for one song her father used to sing and a vague memory of a stolen marble. As doctors grope in the dark, little by little her memory returns. But what she remembers is not always welcome.

Jam Karet is an honest portrait of a distressed resilient generation. This interdisciplinary performance is about the search for individuality in a world where everything is pigeonholed. Who do you become when you can reinvent yourself?

Maker Melissa Knollenburg shows how a young bi-cultural generation holds its own in a divided society. With dance, language and dark humor, dancer Romee van de Meent and actress Kyra Bououargane build a world in which Varo can feel free - just for a moment.
