On this evening, the ArteGanza Foundation opens the four-day Musica Mundo Festival with an exclusive musical encounter between Moroccan musician Aziz Ozouss and the Amersfoort afro band Luna Maki. During an intensive residency in the week leading up to the festival, they will develop a new program together with the premiere on Friday evening.

Aziz Ozouss grew up in the southern Moroccan region of Souss-Massa-Drâa, surrounded by the rich traditions of Amazigh music. Central to his music is the ribab, an ancient, single-stringed string instrument with an enchanting sound deeply rooted in Amazigh culture. Starting in 2008, Ozouss devoted himself entirely to mastering this unique instrument and has become a true master. With the ribab, he not only brings to life the sounds of his ancestors, but also gives them a contemporary twist by adding influences from reggae, jazz and blues.

Luna Maki is known for its powerful blend of Afrobeat, street poetry and groove. Led by mysterious frontman The Maki, the band uses music to move people and share stories. Their sound is inspired by influences from all corners of the world, from Jakarta to Congo, from Paramaribo to Amsterdam. With a solid beat and sharp lyrics, Luna Maki knows how to touch the audience and make them dance.

Together, Aziz Ozouss and Luna Maki create a musical landscape where North African traditions, poetic street singing and deep grooves come together. The result is an energetic and exciting concert that opens the Musica Mundo Festival in its own unique way.
