When her friends cancel their annual weekend away at the last minute, late fifty-something Andrea asks her lesbian daughter Joosje to come with her to the luxury vacation bungalow in Katwijk. Joosje has been home with burnout for six months and does not want to disappoint her mother again. But because a weekend alone with her mother and all the obligatory sociability that comes with it seems like hell on earth to her, she persuades her best friend Laurens to come along. And now the three of them are in rainy Katwijk. Joosje can only sleep, Laurens tries to please everyone and Andrea had imagined it all very differently.

Then Andrea finds the manuscript of her new book in Joosje's bag, in which she deals with her upbringing and the role that her - according to Joosje overly narcissistic - mother played in it. Where first they were walking on eggshells, but before dessert the luxurious bungalow turned into a verbal battlefield and even Laurens' culinary delights could not save the soured atmosphere.

A tragicomic performance about the (straight) parent / (queer) child relationship, identity and mental health, Katwijk paints an intimate portrait of two generations who want to understand each other, but don't get it.
