More than ten years ago the Netherlands was introduced to the South African theater company SOUTH AFRICAN ROAD TRIP. This season the fourteen singers, dancers and musicians return with a brand new performance: We Are Family.

Originating from Xhosa families - one of the thirteen official cultures in South Africa - these performers have been surrounded by music and dance from an early age. For them, singing together at a meal is as natural and meaningful as the food itself. In Xhosa culture, families are central, and traditions are passed down from generation to generation. The mother always takes a special and prominent role in this.

Singer and dancer Lungiswa Plaatjies aptly puts it, "My family is my immune system. Without respect, love, communication and wisdom, we can do nothing."

Bursting with energy, South African Road Trip welcomes you to their Family and introduces you to their culture and family customs. In We Are Family you will get to know the singers, dancers and musicians up close through the personal songs and family stories.

With a banging live band they perform African songs by artists such as Brenda Fassie, Miriam Makeba and Fela Kuti, but they also play hits such as 'We Are Family' (Sister Sledge) and 'Respect' (Aretha Franklin). South African Road Trip once again guarantees a rousing evening of song, dance and South African vibes.
