Trek your finest dress or newest blouse, because it's time for a luxurious dinner. We asked Amersfoorters where go for a chic evening out and these eight culinary gems came out!
May
Marco and Ingeborgh Blok are aan het roer at restaurant MAY. Marco previously captured a Michelin star with his former restaurant Bloks in Amersfoort. At MAY, food from the season comes first. This makes an evening of dining there always surprising.
They work there with high-quality, local products that have a good story to tell. The dishes are uncomplicated. Adornment is not necessary, as the fresh produce plays the main role. No idea what to choose? On Fridays and Saturdays they exclusively serve a perfectly composed 5-course menu.
De Aubergerie
The Aubergerie has been awarded a BIB Gourmand by Michelin. In short, that means; exceptionally good food at acceptable prices. They serve culinary dishes based on French cuisine. Beautiful taste bombs. Do you like something unique? Opt for the surprise menu aka the incubator of the kitchen.
De Saffraan
At De Saffraan, awarded a Michelin star in the past, they work with local products as much as possible. You can compose the menu with your favorites, but personally I like to be surprised. And you can do that via 'Tasting menu' with an Asian twist or with the vegetarian 'Garden Garden menu'. Please note; these menus are only available on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
The Michelin Guide writes of De Saffraan, "here cooks a chef who has mastered innovative techniques. That bodes well! In addition, the restaurant is located on their own boat with a lovely terrace.
De Monnikendam
In one of the eyecatchers of Amersfoort, the watergate Monnikendam, you will find the restaurant of the same name, De Monnikendam. Here you can choose from a changing chef's menu of four, five or six courses. Do you really want to splurge or surprise your loved one? In the Riddertoren you can have a romantic dinner with a crackling fire and romantic candlelight. And... you can also get married there!
Merlot
At Merlot, the cooking is French with influences from Vietnamese cuisine. The ingredients are fresh and full of flavor. Also nice, there are vega options. If you go for the Merlot Menu, you can choose from four to seven courses. Or compose your own menu from the à la carte options.
The Chef, Michael van Manh Ho, has been chosen as Chef of the Year in 2023 by Tasting Restaurants! Count on fresh herbs and spices in an optimal ratio of sour, salty, sweet, spicy and umami.
Tollius
Restaurant Tollius, located at the foot of the Amersfoortse Berg, is a culinary pearl where gastronomy comes to life. Led by chef Barry Hamstra, praised in the Michelin Guide and Gault Millau, everything revolves around pure enjoyment: surprising dishes, excellent wines, and a warm, casual atmosphere.
Seasonal ingredients are the basis for bold flavors and unique dishes, perfectly matched with wines. Tollius sets itself apart with a serving brigade that works seamlessly with the kitchen, ensuring that every guest is completely pampered.
Het Bergpaviljoen
Het Bergpaviljoen is great for lunch, dinner or drinks. Enjoy 'joi de vivre' and relaxed service, but with comfortable chairs, good glassware and enough privacy for conversation. As Het Bergpaviljoen itself says, 'Feel good gastronomy without frills in a pleasant and casual atmosphere'.
The restaurant has also been awarded a Bib-Gourmand by Michelin stating, "...The great menu of choices, fresh fish from the counter, a classic or bar food to share? Dining at this luminous pavilion, where the art deco elements and spacious terrace catch the eye, involves difficult choices. But whether it's ceviche or fried salmon fillet, the chef peppers his classic base with original ideas. A business with taste!...."
RAUW
Meat lovers fond of the typical rich taste of aged beef from dual-purpose cows are at RAUW 's beck and call. These include a hefty côte de boeuf that is silky smooth or a chateaubriand enriched with fried foie gras.
The chefs at RAUW grill various cuts of beef over a very powerful heat source, ensuring juiciness and fine bite. For those who prefer rauw, there is fine steak tartare served both as an appetizer and as a main course with classic garnishes.
